AN EVENING WITH HARRY MANX
SATURDAY MAY 8TH – MEENIYAN TOWN HALL – 8PM
AN EVENING WITH HARRY MANX
CONCESSION/ MEMBERS $45 ADULTS $48
Unique Canadian bluesman Harry Manx returns for a long awaited Australia-wide tour, bringing with him his stunning new ‘Bread and Buddha’ album. It was his five-year tutelage with renowned Rajasthani musician Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (Grammy winner with Ry Cooder for ‘A Meeting by the River’) that forged his now signature east-meets-west style of music, infusing traditional American earthy 12-bar blues with a subtle hint of mystic Indian sounds. Playing lap-slide guitar, harmonica, cigar-box guitar, banjo, stomp box and the 20-stringed Mohan Veena, Harry envelopes his audience with his warm vocals and haunting original songs, plus his quirky reworks of some classic blues.

GIPPSLAND CAMPDRAFT ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIPS
Comencing approximately 7am
This true “aussie” sport began in the cattle camps of the outback, where riders were required to select a beast out from the mob. This took the combined skill of horse and rider working together as one, as most cattle resent being separated from the mob. Over time, these skills were developed into the uniquely Australian sport as we see it today.

MEENIYAN & DISTRICT COMMUNITY BANK
PROJECT NEWS
ATM: Finally, the long-awaited ATM has arrived! This is a big achievement for our community bank project. It is also a very good reason to change your banking now to the Bendigo Bank, as you would then be able to withdraw funds from the ATM without incurring a fee. As well as saving you money, this will also help to get the bank branch opened sooner, and enable the branch to open with a sound customer base. This is an important factor in returning profits as quickly as possible to the community, as well as returning dividends to those who have pledged their support. Your banking could include loans, credit cards, savings accounts, term deposits: anything that you already have through your existing bank. Refer to the ad in this publication for details of how to open your account under the Meeniyan branch code: this is a MUST for those transferring their banking. People living or working in the proposed catchment area of Meeniyan, Dumbalk, Stony Creek, Fish Creek, Tarwin, Koonwarra, Mardan, Nerrena, Waratah, and everywhere in between are invited and encouraged to participate, because the community bank branch will benefit all the surrounding areas.
MEENIYAN REAL ESTATE NEWS
FROM PROM COUNTRY FIRST NATIONAL REAL ESTATE
It just keeps on! Just when we thought that the last 2 houses for sale in the township had been sold this week (2/56 Whitelaw Street, and 12B Meikle Street) – congratulations to vendors and buyers), another pops up to fill its place! This time, Alan and Heather Brown’s house, at 173 Whitelaw Street is now on the market. So if you think you might have missed out on the Meeniyan Market, you might be lucky this time if you move quickly! Another property to sell very quickly, Max and Rhonda Beard’s house came and went with quiet efficiency by your local agents…sold to Daphne Densley, whose long search for the perfect property came to a happy ending when she stepped inside 2 Royston Street! We wish Max and Rhonda all the very best in their new adventure. We are able to confirm that the vacant commercial block beside Bloch Pharmacy has in fact sold – to Shane and Kellie Brewer of South Gippsland Glass. We have been reliably informed that a permit application is now making its way through council for a shiny new retail shop at the front, with the Glass showroom, parking, and factory at the rear! That will mean another two forthcoming businesses for Meeniyan – down the track a bit. A little bird has told us that Andrew McEwan (Director Sustainability, South Gippsland Shire) and his wife Maggie have bought a parcel of land in McIlwaine Street. It will be great to welcome Andrew and Maggie to Meeniyan! It seems that Meeniyan is managing to attract ALL SORTS these days! While we are on the subject of land, we hear that Julie and Geoff Dean are about to see some real action on their own block in McKitterick Street. Hooray for them, it’s finally about to happen! A big welcome to Ann and Jim Read, who have just settled on Julie (of Meeniyan Fruit & Veg) and Maureen’s place at Dumbalk. Ann and Jim moved in last Tuesday, then headed off Wednesday morning for a Hawaii holiday! We’ll be trying to get Jim to come down for twilight bowls: he hates a beer or two! And it’s a big Meeniyan GOOD BYE to Lorraine Eddie, who has now gone to live at the Grange in Leongatha, and another to Marlene Hanks, who has moved into her lovely new Leongatha home.
MERCURIO’S MENU COMES TO MEENIYAN.
Paul Mercurio and his team have been staying at the Meeniyan Motel during the first week in December, They have been filming in South Gippsland. This is the second time they have stayed at the motel in the last 15 months. They enjoy the relaxed friendly atmosphere at the motel and hotel. They are doing a special feature on Andy’s Pizza shop, but have also filmed Meeniyan Motel, Meeniyan Hotel, Moo’s at Meeniyan and a few other things around town so please keep and eye out for Meeniyan on Mercurio’s Menu in the coming month’s.

First National Real Estate Prom Country
Meeniyan continues to surprise both locals and real estate observers with
its buoyant real estate activity.
The past 4-6 weeks has included the sale of 6 retail freeholds in Whitelaw
Street to an Inverloch based investor, the sale of vacant land at Lot 1
Whitelaw Street (a residential house is planned for that site), and the sale
of houses at 1 Geale Street, and two others in Whitelaw Street. As has
been predicted for some time by the local fraternity, recent factors have
probably contributed to the interest in Meeniyan to rise. Those influences
are thought to include the sewerage, the Community bank project, the
Carnivale and Art & Craft events, local council interest, and the presence
of a 7-days-per-week real estate agency within the township. The recent
good sale activity also shows that there is a shortage of properties both
for sale and rent in and around Meeniyan. (We still need a rental for
Marty Thomas the new restaurateur, and several others who have their
names on our books. Can anybody help?).
Meeniyan residents should congratulate themselves, particularly those
who have been involved in the local community, and those who support
local businesses and therefore the continuing viability, of Meeniyan.
Meeniyan has a reputation for having a “close-knit” and active community,
and it does seem to be paying dividends. Keep up the great work,
Meeniyan! We’re doing alright!
