A WALK THROUGH TIME: STORIES OF LOCH 1876 – 2011
The history of the picturesque village of Loch will soon be told in a combined walk and theatrical performance.
Called, A Walk through Time: Stories of Loch 1876 – 2011, the tour will take about 100 minutes. The audience will be lead through the village, stopping at 6
different sites to hear the stories of two woman pioneers, an early school teacher and reluctant student, a dairy farming couple, a bank clerk, a football team
on the brink of glory and the towns dogged pursuit of a much wanted park.
The walk can be enjoyed on two levels. First, the pleasure of the walk itself, re-imagining the village over time. Second, a deeper appreciation of the life lived
there over the past 130 years, the troubles faced and community forged.
The walk will take place on Sunday March 6 at 11am and 2pm.

POSTCARDS OF SOUTH GIPPSLAND
RENAE CARMODY
Renae Carmody is a local artist from Leongatha who loves living in beautiful South Gippsland with her husband Warren and three children Philippa, William
and Zara.
In 2000, Renae produced a series of postcards for many towns around South Gippsland because she felt that there was very little acknowledgment of their
landmarks and features, and she wanted locals and tourists to have access to fun and colourful images to send to other parts of Australia and the world.
These designs were enjoyed and well supported locally and were sent to some weird and wonderful places.

COMMUNITY PLANNING WORKSHOP
The organisers from South Gippsland Shire were more than happy with
the response from a great cross-section of the community. Approximately
70 people attended the session throughout the day where some great
ideas were discussed and put forward. Ros Greggs from South Gippsland
Water was able to give an update on the sewerage, informing those present
that the first connections would be taking place in June or July. She
also spoke about the proposed wetlands, community involvement and the
planned board-walk and plantings. Chris Bettles from IGA in Foster/
Mirboo North was also able to give an update on the Meeniyan Supermarket.
He hopes that building will commence very shortly, April/May and
the store will start trading in November. This information was greeted
with great enthusiasm especially when he said that the store will be open
7 days a week from 7am to 9 pm and have very competitive prices

THE SHELIA SESSIONS
For sheer professionalism, great entertainment, good humour and value for
money, this show was the epitome of excellence in every genre !! After a
wonderful hour of versatile entertainment from multi instrumental playing
support act ‘The Distance’, the stage in the Meeniyan Hall on the 6th March
came alive with the enthusiasm and exuberance from the 3 girls, Beccy Cole,
Chri E Thomas and Kate Ballantyne fresh from their sell out Tamworth performances.
Singing songs mostly made popular by female singers, the girls
had given them new and different arrangements which they called Sheliarising
them !! Do not think you will find that word in the dictionary !!Interaction
with the audience from all 3 was superb and they all lived up to their glowing
reputations of being fabulous and funny on stage. Between them they have,
5 divorces, 4 children, 9 Golden Guitars, 2 Starmaker Awards, 1 teaching
degree and these life experiences were evident in their magical performances.
The people who were not there missed out on a night in Meeniyan to
remember for a long time to come. The audience who was there was most
appreciative and blown away with how lucky we were to have seen such a
show at our own Meeniyan Hall.

MEENIYAN ART GALLERY INC. [ MAG]
The last exhibition by Ellen Taylor from Inverloch of her fine drawings and
installation art was very successful and now we have an exhibition of works
by Antonia Buckley from Fish Creek. An unusual exhibition for MAG entitled
‘Still Life ?’, it focuses on fruit, vegetables and flowers and runs until 22nd
April. Tourists over the Labour Day weekend were amazed and pleasantly
surprised that a small town such as Meeniyan could have a contemporary
gallery of such a high standard. This is only because of the amazing band
of volunteers who staff MAG so competently and give of their time so generously.
