The Orbweavers.
Saturday 14th January, Meeniyan Hall, 8pm
$25/$30
The Orbweavers are Marita Dyson on vocals, guitar and violin, Stuart Flanagan on vocals and guitar, Daniel Aulsebrook on trumpet, Paddy Mann (Grand Salvo) on bass, Jen Sholakis (Laura Jean, Sailor Days) on drums and Stuart Lindsay on koto and organ.
“Their recently released second album, Loom, is a gently hypnotic work of country-tinged alt folk with a gothic underlining that tells the story of landscapes, nature and civilization’s attempts to corral the land for its own use.”
“The Orbweavers have a delicate and subtle sound. I was drifting unfocused through the milky sweetness of Japanese Mountains until Marita Dyson started singing in Japanese and suddenly thought, “Wow, this is lovely.” The muffled horn in Spotswood has a similar effect – it pulls your attention; a glimmering focal point in the gentle waves of the melody. Beautiful” – BEAT MAGAZINE

Tex Perkin’s Band of Gold
Saturday 18th February, Meeniyan Hall, 8pm
$40/$45
Only a month after the latest Dark Horses album Tex Perkins has released Tex Perkins and the Band of Gold – a band and album of the same name, comprising fourteen “solid gold” country music covers by Perkins . Perkins shares vocals on a number of tracks with the delightful Rachael Tidd, whose voice occasionally nudges Tex along, stretching him a touch from that comfortable baritone drawl that we love but already know so well.

Mossvale Park – One Perfect Day

$60/$70 + $4 booking fee. Under 14 free.
People MUST be a current financial member by the 1st December 2011 to be eligible for member prices to Mossvale.
Nestled into the gently rolling hills of South Gippsland is a veiled park, unseen from the road that takes you from Inverloch on the coast, through Leongatha, past the park and onto Mirboo North and the LaTrobe Valley. The Park is home to massive ancient trees, open lawn spaces and is bordered by a river.     There is a a permanent sound shell in the middle of the lawns beautifully framed by the old trees.
You are welcome to BYO food and drink (NO GLASS) and can also buy from an array of local food, wine, ale and craft vendors in the park on the day.
Car Parking is FREE.
No animals allowed.
The atmosphere is supremely relaxed, bring your own rug or chair.
Dancing will always happen front of stage so if you want to sit undisturbed move back a little.
The park is spacious and there is enough room for those that wish to dance, those that wish to relax under the trees or take walks in the park and along the river.
Children are welcome but PARENTS be aware that children are not to go into the river and it is YOUR responsibility, not ours, to keep them safe.

The Dirty Three (Aust.)
The band comprise Warren Ellis on violin (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Grinderman), Mick Turner (guitar, Cat Power, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy) and Jim White (drums, Smog, Cat Power, Bonnie’Prince Billy’). Formed in Melbourne in 1991, this violin led trio has earned an international fanbase through years of relentless touring and spellbinding performances
Charles Bradley and His Extraordinaires (USA)
Howling soul so loud and proud that you’ll think the ghost of James Brown has entered the park. Discovered at the age of 62 by Daptones records, Charles Bradley takes life of hard knocks & leaves it all on the stage for one of the most amazing & soulful performances you’ll ever see.
Eric Bibb and Stefan Astner (USA & Sweden)
With masterful musicianship and trademark velvet voice, Eric Bibb is a Grammy nominee who has sailed into the hearts of blues and roots fans worldwide. In duo mode, Eric will be accompanied by beautiful Swedish guitarist Stefan Astner (Celine Dion) who is also featured on a new live CD, Troubadour live.
The Bamboos (Aust.)
The Bamboos are generally acknowledged as Australia’s greatest modern Funk & Soul band. Emerging from the ‘Deep Funk’ scene of the early 2000’s, The Bamboos have since forged a unique sound of their own, combining elements of Old-School Funk, Hip Hop, Mod Rock, Psychedelic & Northern Soul. The 8-piece line-up led by guitarist Lance Ferguson and featuring the power-house vocals of Kylie Auldist are renowned for their blistering, high energy live sets which have kept people dancing all the way from Byron Bay to Bratislava. Their four studio albums and one live album for U.K label Tru Thoughts have earned them a place in the very upper echelon of the worldwide contemporary Funk & Soul scene.
Ben Sollee (USA)
Ben is a genre-bending cellist and vocalist known for his percussive playing style, genre hopping songwriting, wide appeal, and political activism. His music incorporates banjo, guitar, percussion and unusual cello techniques to create a unique mix of folk, bluegrass, jazz and R&B. Ben Sollee seeks to intertwine his music with art and life.
 Krystle Warren (USA)
“Warren’s voice is an extraordinary instrument, murmuring with tenderness at times, growling with intensity at others. It vividly recalls Nina Simone in its depth and smokiness, as well as John Martyn and (Jeff) Buckley in terms of virtuosic variety.” – The Guardian
Sal Kimber & The Rollin’ Wheel (Aust.)
Described by Rolling Stone as “Australiana-soaked alt-country at its finest”, Sal Kimber & The Rollin’ Wheel have been winning hearts at shows and festivals around the country. Their self-titled album, which showcases Kimber’s award-winning songwriting and the band’s skillful musicianship, was met with an overwhelming response upon its release this October.
AHAB (UK)
Cited as the best thing since Mumford & Sons, we are delighted to present Ahab – a band destined for great things.  With their gorgeous melodies, soaring harmonies and masterful songwriting, this is a band we are truly excited about.
Liz Stringer & Van Walker (Aust)
Both Liz and Van have played Mossvale Park before, Elementary that  Melbourne’s finest singer songwriters should return to this our tenth anniversary  at Mossvale Park. We are delighted that Liz and Van will be sharing the stage together……..something not to be missed!

Steve Earle
Wednesday 28th March, Meeniyan Hall, 8pm
$60/$65

We have enjoyed Justin Townes Earle on his first tour to Australia and every tour since. We are very excited to have him back again in 2012, read below. We have always hoped to get his Dad, Steve Earle, to come to Meeniyan, and even though we have never done a mid-week gig before, this is so special, we just have to. It is the only date he has available.
Singer-songwriter, actor, author, political activist, producer – Steve Earle is one of life’s great troubadours! He hasn’t wandered this way for a number of years, in fact, it’s been three albums & and three Grammy Awards since we saw him last. A protégé of legendary songwriters Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, Steve Earle quickly became a master storyteller in his own right, with his songs being recorded by Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, Travis Tritt, The Pretenders, Joan Baez and countless others.

Justin Townes Earle
Thursday 5th April, Meeniyan Hall, 8pm
$45/$50
Young guitar-wielding, globetrotting Americana exponent Justin Townes Earle may well be one of the hardest working troubadours on the world stage today, but he sure has built up a mutual love affair with Australia and our people. We love the hell out of him, and, well, his impending tour this April will be his fifth visit to our shores since he first wowed punters and critics alike on his first foray at the tail-end of 2008, so the feeling is obviously reciprocated. Just ask the man himself, he recently offered of Australia:
“It’s my favourite place to tour on earth without question. It’s very intriguing, and the women are very beautiful, tall and sensual. It’s awesome. It reminds me of Dr Seuss and I like that.”
Strange but fair. For those yet to experience the live sensation that is Justin Townes Earle, you’re sure in for a treat. The lanky, tattooed man and his music drip with charisma and authenticity, seeming to channel the spirit of long-forgotten country and blues icons such as Lightnin’ Hopkins and Buck Owens, but filtering them through a modern sensibility that broadens his appeal to all and sundry, not just purveyors of the old school. Hell, celebrated country outlaw Steve Earle is his dad and he’s named after his legendary godfather Townes Van Zandt, you can’t get much better lineage than that in this business.

2 November — 20 December
FOOTPRINTS: THE JOURNEY OF LUCY AND PERCY PEPPER
This special exhibition and accompanying book is a fascinating search through public and family records that trace the lives of one Aboriginal family in the first half of the twentieth century. Footprints explores the different places the Pepper family lived along with extraordinary details about the events of their lives, their resilience in the face of adversity, and the strong family connections they fiercely protected despite government policies that aimed to separate so called ‘half-caste’ Aboriginal people from their full-blood family relations.
Featuring information panels and a short film, Footprints also illustrates how Aboriginal people can retrace the steps of their ancestors through public records, and in the case of the Stolen Generations, reconnect with families and communities.
